Framed Vintage Wine Art
If there is any one thing immediately associated with style and high class, it is arguably wine. Wine is somehow inextricably linked with our perceptions of grandeur and European elegance, and as such has made its way into art and decor hundreds of times over. Even framed vintage wine posters are art in and of themselves.
Many framed vintage wine posters feature foreign languages, likely due to the intimate relationship between wine and European culture. Some are in Italian, such as “Cinzano” by Leonetto Cappiello and “Martini Rossi” by Marcello Dudovich. Both of these posters include imagery of elegance and almost ethereal beauty. The French poster “Bieres de la Meuse” is done in the Art Nouveau style, which again features a highly stylized rendition of a beautiful woman enjoying the decadence of her drink.
Some are advertisements not for specific wines, but for destinations and localities and regions renowned for their wine production. “Tuscany” by Val Bustamonte features a beautiful rendition of an Italian countryside. The rolling hills and golden valleys are illustrated so beautiful that the viewer was like supposed to assume the wine would be just as magnificent!
Many of these old framed vintage wine posters are advertisements for specific brands and labels and beverages. “Isolabella,” “Bitter Campari,” “Porto Pitters,” Cognac Monnet”—all of these are extravagantly illustrated with brilliant colors, stylized fonts, and elegant imagery to entice potential drinkers of the day and age in which they were created. Today, the imagery remains even if the intention to sell no longer applies.
