Framed President Paintings
The United States of America was first colonized in the 16th century becoming a free country in the 18th century with the appointment of the first President of the USA in George Washington. Since then many more Presidents have guided this country and with such prestige have been captured in framed US President art as a memento to the country’s history.
There is probably no nobler way to capture a leader of a country than in a framed US President portrait. Rembrandt Peale captured ‘Thomas Jefferson’ with realism but also with softness, creating a gentle and friendly effect, humanizing the man. George Henry Story captured ‘Abraham Lincoln’ so humble and dignified, just as the man truly was himself. While when George Peter Alexander Healy created his ‘Portrait of Abraham Lincoln’ it was of a more natural moment, the president in his chair, legs crossed, head resting on hard and clearly deep in thought.
John F Kennedy, JFK, is one of modern history’s most lovable politicians and JFK’s time as president, as well as his campaign leading up to his election are beautifully portrayed in framed US President photography. Stanley Tretick captured such moments as well as more candid moments like ‘JFK and John Jr’ in 1963 where we can see JFK working at his desk and John Jr playing underneath. Hank Walker also captured JFK in his piece ‘Jon F Kennedy and Robert F Kennedy’, heads bowed together, deep in discussion, two silhouettes in a room.
There is probably no more variety available than in framed US President George Washington art. From formal portraits like those done by Gilbert Stuart and less formal like ‘Love of Country’ by Mark Missman, to scenes such as ‘Crossing the Delaware’ by Emanuel Leutze or as Thomas Sully created it, ‘The Passage of the Delaware’. But George Washington as a subject is not limited to canvas and paper, his face is in stone in Mt Rushmore, although captured brilliantly on paper with photography.
