Framed Violin Art

The seemingly simple mechanic of drawing a bow across the strings is responsible for producing the entire range of sounds. Commonly associated to Western music, it is just as popular outside Europe and has been used for centuries. Compared to other musical instruments, the violin is a relatively new addition, with the first ones being produced in the second half of the 16th century in Italy. Violin artwork features those initial models, as well as the instruments that were modified in the 18th century.

Since the instrument was invented, numerous makers put their knowledge and talent to work to create remarkable violins that are still in use today. The fact that modern fiddlers prefer to play on these violins instead of using the new creations says a great deal about their quality. As stated above, violins are the smallest of string instruments, but they also come in different shapes and sizes, with the tiniest versions being produced in the late stage of the Renaissance period.
