Framed South American Maps
South America is part of a great family of nations and cultures, but it is not part of Meso America, or Middle America. South America includes European influence, having primarily Spanish language, Portuguese, a touch of French, as well as German. The indigenous cultures and people are still around, and that can be found mainly in the Andes, with the surviving Maya people. These framed maps of South America illustrate the influence and the activity that has happened in those regions.
An interesting framed map of South America is “South America - Satellite Orthographic Political Map” by Unknown. It is in German, giving yet another point of view on this magnificent continent. You get to see all the nations and their boundaries, as well as the landforms. Along the side are the Andes Mountains. Around the middle is the Amazon River. This map is a way to enjoy South America from a distance.
An historical framed South American map is “ Small Antique Map of S. America” by Scott Johnson. It is a colourful restored map, using red to outline the nations. The map itself is distorted unlike the previous satellite map. Its nations are similar to those today, but still different.
A very distorted historical map is “1799 Clement Cruttwell Map of South America”. It is mainly of Mexico and the West Indies, a big commercial area in that time period. The proportions are wrong, the orientation is off, and the West Indies have a lot of regions labelled for mariners.
