Hugh Rose has lived in northern climates most of his life and he loves it. The latter part of his life has been spent in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was compelled by the natural beauty of Alaska to ditch a 10-year career in geology to photograph and explore the wildlife and vast landscapes of the north. He’s sure this continuing process will in future result in more interesting and new locations. Both a camera and nature have intrigued him since childhood and now, being a natural history guide and a freelance nature photographer, he’s been planning tours and researching for the past 20 years. Rose was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but was drawn to the north as soon as he was old enough to travel. He moved south to New England as a young child with his parents. This is where he grew up exploring the hills of southern Canada and New England. His photographs have appeared in Frommer's Travel Guide, BBC, Outdoor Life, National Wildlife Federation, National Trade Magazines, Northern Light Calendars, Sierra Club Calendars, Denali Wilderness Calendars, Alaska Airlines Magazine, and numerous other publications. The beautiful images here are the fruits of his explorations, and feature Arctic Alaska and other world destinations including the Antarctica and Galapagos. It’s his goal to offer guided, especially small group trips to see and photograph great light, strange wildlife spectacles, and stunning natural scenery. College took him to the Vermont’s Green Mountains where he studied geology and also began to hone his passion for photography. The framed Hugh Rose art are very easy to recognize.
