James Ferguson (Born 1953) is a cartoonist and a caricaturist. He is a self-taught artist whose caricatures and cartoons have become a staple of many magazines including the LSE Annual Review and the LSE Magazine, and more generally of the FT. for many years, Ferguson has been the foremost caricaturist of the Financial Times. Those who have collected framed James Ferguson art have often done so because of the quality of stillness and peace in his art. The collectors have often commented on these attributes. The lasting effect from his work is one of purity and emotion. All his arts display a delicacy of touch, simplicity of application, and a wonderful understanding of color. In 2005, he held a solo exhibition of characteristic work at the Rivington Gallery. His prints, paintings, posters and art, can be found in numerous corporate and private collections. His work is very characteristic and has a specific style. Having largely taught himself to draw, Ferguson believes that the best art helps break down perceptions that are so taken for granted, that are so deeply ingrained that they seem real. He has attended many art exhibitions and shows to help improve his work. Loving art from a young age gave him the urge to create. His pieces of art are profound in tonalities, well-balanced in composition, and simple in outline. Ferguson’s secret is just in the unclassifiable emotional effect his work gives out. He says that art is never a finished product, but it’s a living, an immediate, and a moving process.
