Penny Benjamin Peterson is an American abstract painter who was born in the States Center, Iowa, although she was brought up in Phoenix, Arizona. The climate in Arizona became unbearable for her family so they moved West of the state where they settled at a farm. She loved the beautiful things of the farm; the landscapes, plants, and life in general. Years after they left the farm, she still had memories of green and more. Penny however later fell in love with the desert, particularly the look of the desert during times of blossom. It looked magical for her, seeing all the hitherto dry plants come to life. Her life in the desert became an influence in her work. This has inspired her to explore the desert beauty by creating art in colors that replicate those peaceful, serene, and spiritually fulfilling moments. In her 20s, she decided to seek formal education in art, a move that helped her understand painting better.
Penny however faced an emotional challenge after her older sister died in 1988, an experience that almost made her stop painting altogether. Fortunately, she got to painting again and later met an art teacher named Eleanor Harris who taught her a few disciplines, including non-objective shapes and collage. She works with different entities in organizing art auctions in support of specific projects, including Arizona Easter Seals. She supports Free Arts for Abused Children and the American Diabetes Association while at the same time offering training and working with Diabetes Auction. Penny’s art are displayed by both private and corporate collectors in the U.S. and Canada. Some of these collectors are Magellan Resources, Circus Circus Enterprises, and National Car Rental. Penny Benjamin Peterson framed art prints can also be found in galleries for those who would like to purchase art that’s ready for the wall.
