Framed Pear Art
Pears are a unique fruit that have been a common muse for artists for a long time. It is a simple fruit, and it is easy to draw. Artists such as Janet Kruskamp, Chariklia Zarris, Loran Speck, and many others have painted framed pears art in a variety of ways. The pear is an item that painters have been mastering for centuries, while modern artists are still enjoying crafting their version of the ancient fruit.
Over the years, many artists have incorporated the pear into an array of other fruits, which is usually shown on a table with other foods. Victor Santos chooses this path because he is not focusing on the one fruit itself but emphasizes the other items on the table just as much. Typical items shown with the pear are flowers, a bread bowl or basket, grapes, cheeses, and of course, other fruits. By painting the pear in this light, the work becomes more versatile and universal and allows the owner to blend this piece of fruit in with other common items.
Nicole Etienne, Peggy Thatch Sibley, and Judy Mandolf have framed the pear in a slightly different way than usual. In these ladies’ paintings, the pear is shown from a more neutral, humdrum angle. There are no vibrant colors, popping images, or eye-drawing characteristics. These artists have painted the typically bright green fruit in a lighter gray to green color. This lack of color allows the viewer to observe the painting as a whole, rather than single in on one item in the picture, the pear.
A few artists like Timothy O’Toole, Terri Hill, and Dale Payson have gone the opposite route of Etienne, Sible and Mandolf. They have painted a pear with its true bright, lively color of green to yellow. Also, the main focal point in these artists’ paintings is the pear itself, not the surrounding items or the background. One’s eyes are automatically drawn to the fruit and its beautiful colors, rather than trying to figure out what surrounds it. The backgrounds to these paintings are very basic in content, with typically one contrasting color to really make the foreground pop. These artists have chosen to depict the fruit in a more upbeat light.
