Parsley is a Mediterranean herb, known worldwide as spice and a vegetable. It is a small green herb growing in tropical areas, but it is adaptable to all climates. It usually grows up to 75 centimeters. It has two types of leaves: curled, which are mostly used for decoration and flat, which are easier to cultivate. Also, here are two types of parsley: leaf parsley and root parsley, both used frequently in cooking. Parsley got its name by linking up two words: Petrose which means rock, and Selenium which means celery.
In history, parsley was used in many occasions. This herb had the same effect as bubble gums have today, to freshen up the breath. In Ancient Greece and Rome, it was used in different ceremonies. There were various myths about parsley. For example, ancient Greeks believed that if parsley grows near somebody’s house, the person will have bad luck. English thought that it is bad luck to replant it.
Nowadays, parsley is often used as a decoration on food and as indispensable ingredient of many meals. Many national meals wouldn’t have the same taste without it: Italian Salsa Verde, English sauce, Brazilian sauce, etc. Good taste and decoration are not the only reasons this plant is used in cooking. Namely, parsley has a lot of vitamins (A, K) and a lot of useful components.
Surely, the most interesting part of this herb are leaves, which are a great inspiration for many cooks to prepare outstanding meals. Framed parsley art would bring in wonderful aroma to every room of any living space that needs to have a feeling of good taste in it.
