Mint, or as it is known in some parts of the world, Mentha, is a seasonal herb, growing in wet environments. According to Greek mythology, Hades’ wife Persephone, turned river's nymph Minthe into a plant after finding out that Hades was in love with her and that is how the plant got its name.
Mint is growing during the entire year, especially in the nearby of lakes or rivers. It doesn’t have to be in perfect conditions to grow. Mint is rising from the seed or plant cuttings. There is no exact time when the herb should be harvested. After harvesting, it should be stored in plastic bags in order to keep its sweet-flavored aroma and freshness. Most frequently cultivated mints are peppermint, spearmint and apple mint.
The plant is high from 10 to 120 centimeters, with leaves in different shades of green and the nuance of flowers is ranging from white to purple. It differs in many species, which got their names depending on their place of growth or appearance. Mint has usage in cooking as a spice for many dishes or as an ingredient of alcoholic drinks, teas, deserts, etc. This herb is a good repellent, as it kills wasps, ants and other pests. In medicine, it is used as remedy for healing pains and in cosmetics as an ingredient of essential oils and fragrances.
Mint is an useful and scented herb that found its place in modern time art by inspiring many artists because of its special beauty and unusual look. As a part of framed mint art, it brings the feeling of scented peace in your home.
