Laura Culver grew up in Orinda, California. She currently teaches landscape oil painting in San Rafael at Rileystreet Art Supply and regularly exhibits in the SF Bay area. She regularly exhibits in solo shows, juried competitions, and invitationals including MarinScapes, Bolinas Museum and West Marin Wild. She became a full-time in 2002 artist with her medium being award-winning Hand-Colored Photography. She continues limited exhibits in this medium. Laura is a Guest Member of the Baywood Artists, and an Associate Member of the California Art Club. After graduation from UC Davis with a degree in Graphics Design, she pursued a career path including art buying, stock photography and graphic design for an advertising agency. In 2006 she found herself in an oil painting class, she was really impressed and was instantly drawn to the challenging, creative process of plein air painting. She has studied with the Marin Art School, Camille Przewodek, and many others. Her art are in the collections of Peacock Gap Country Club, Law Office of Rachel Castrejon, First Federal Savings & Loan, SF, and Private Wealth Partners, Larkspur. Laura is affiliated to Colorists of Northern California, Art Works Downtown, Baywood Artists, California Art Club, Marin Conservation League, Sierra Club, Environmental Action Committee, Marin Agricultural Land Trust, and many others. She says that the balance between cool and warm is of utmost importance to her adding that her goal is to see with her heart and eyes, and paint the landscape using the language of light and color.
